A date palm named Sweet Fruit loved her life. She thought she had everything: a loving gardener, a treasured friend, amazing stories to listen to, and fun holidays to celebrate in Jerusalem! Life for Sweet Fruit was perfect until an unfortunate accident happened in the garden.Water became scarce and her best friend became like a shriveled weed. Sweet Fruit was lonely until the neighbors suddenly appeared, pulling and cutting fronds from the palm trees. Then Sweet Fruit feared for her life! The gardener’s friend ran to the trees’ rescue rejoicing that Jesus the King was coming. Sweet Fruit had heard stories about Jesus and wished that this miracle worker would come to the garden and restore the joy and peace that had been lost. It all seemed impossible. Jesus was so close but seemed so far away. Then to Sweet Fruit’s amazement the crowd parted a man who radiated goodness and love climbed from his donkey. This Palm Sunday and Easter story about a date palm tree named Sweet Fruit teaches about the life of Jesus through the eyes of a palm tree who hopes to one day see this healer and Savior. This story also explores the cultural and religious significance of date palm trees which have been cultivated for over 5,000 years for their resilience and nutritional value. Their symbolic meanings add a depth of meaning to the exploration of Jesus’ life in this book.
