Questo libro presenta la sintesi, la caratterizzazione e le applicazioni biomediche di complessi di base Schiff di lantanidi ottenuti da ligandi organici appositamente progettati. Esempi di questi complessi sono facilmente reperibili attraverso una reazione di coordinazione controllata tra ioni Ln(III) e ligandi multidentati di base Schiff sviluppati per stabilizzare e definire il legame di coordinazione metallo-ione. Per studiare i ligandi multivalenti e valutare le proprietà strutturali, le capacità di coordinazione, la composizione elementare, la morfologia e le proprietà termiche dei complessi sintetizzati sono stati utilizzati diversi metodi di caratterizzazione analitica avanzata, tra cui FT-IR, UV-Vis, NMR, spettrometria di massa, SEM-EDX, TGA e XRD. Utilizzando i metodi standard di microbiologia e citotossicità, le proprietà antimicrobiche e antitumorali dei complessi sono state rigorosamente studiate per dimostrare un’inibizione significativa contro ceppi selezionati di batteri, funghi e linee cellulari tumorali. I risultati suggeriscono inoltre che i complessi lantanidici a base Schiff hanno un impatto terapeutico significativo e potrebbero fornire agenti bioattivi efficaci per futuri studi biomedici e ricerche di drug-design.
