Sugarhouse Pete is an American Family Story. It provides an inside look at how one family dealt with the harsh circumstances of the cruelest economic period in U. S. history, and succeeded despite the hardships. This classic American tale is filled with excitement and optimism, heartache and joy, humor and laughter. In the early 1900’s, an immigrant from a rural village in Eastern Europe migrated to the United States, and worked as a coal miner, subway laborer, sugar plant employee and oil refinery boilermaker, while acquiring a unique nickname. He coped with the great Depression of the 1930’s, struggling to provide for his family, while coping with his wife’s severe mental depression. With his wife, he raised five boys. Paul played for a famous football team as one of the 'Seven Blocks of Granite,' and with the Green Bay Packers. Later, he became a doctor. Pete played football for Notre Dame and the Baltimore Colts. John became a shipyard superintendent building destroyers during World War II, and later was a successful builder in Florida. Mike tried brewing bootleg gin during Prohibition, and roamed the country looking for work during the Depression, and was a professional boxer.Steve worked as an advertising executive. The family mixed with Jack Dempsey, Frank Sinatra and Vince Lombardi. As a story of an immigrant family, it is as American as apple pie, and a monumental memoir that you will want to share.

Stuart Evans’s first novel is a comedy-of-ill-manners set in a nouveau riche milieu: a fantastic satirical performance and hyper-referential homage to masters past and present. Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
