El título de este libro es la traducción literal de una expresión japonesa, doushou imu, y quiere decir «tener distintas opiniones o intenciones, aun haciendo lo mismo». Así, el autor revisa la relación que ha mantenido el Perú y el Japón desde sus inicios. Después de una reseña panorámica de esta, y partir del análisis de hechos y documentos, Murakami se enfoca en las actitudes que tuvo el Japón ante el proceso electoral de 1990; la conformación del llamado Grupo de Apoyo para la reinserción del Perú en la comunidad financiera internacional; la ruptura del orden constitucional en 1992; la crisis de los rehenes en la residencia del embajador japonés en el Perú de 1996-1997; y las relaciones económicas, para culminar con los vínculos entre el Perú y Japón después de la caída del gobierno de Alberto Fujimori. 10
