Sueños del barranco, una selección de los poemas de Oh Sae-young, revela la filosofía y la poética del autor. Nutrida del budismo y del taoísmo, la poesía de Oh es un esfuerzo por superar la deshumanización, el materialismo, el egocentrismo y la decadencia de la civilización actual mediante el regreso a los valores del pensamiento oriental. Su escritura, por otra parte, busca el lenguaje sin lenguaje –en expresión budista–, el lenguaje de la Nada. Una vez alcanzado este lenguaje, el poeta deberá regresar al lenguaje común, que ya no será el de antes.Sin cesar, el poeta debe destruir el lenguaje y crear uno nuevo. Pero la salvación del lenguaje y de la Historia, o de la realidad, no se da por separado. Para el poeta, el esfuerzo por preservar el lenguaje no significa otra cosa que ponerse al servicio de la vida, salvar el espíritu humano de la decadencia.Según Oh Sae-young, los tres elementos fundamentales de la poesía son: el mensaje filosófico, la representación y la emoción. Para ello Oh recupera la naturaleza lírica de la poesía, sin olvidar el necesario equilibrio entre la expresión artística y el pensamiento filosófico. Actitud que resume en esta frase: “Una poesía auténtica debe construir su ética y su estética con los métodos básicos de la vanguardia”.
