This article has examined the multifaceted nature of academic malpractices in Indian engineering colleges, highlighting both student and teacher-related unethical behaviours. It has explored the root causes-ranging from societal pressure, flawed education systems, inadequate faculty training, to the commercialization of education-and the wide-reaching impacts these malpractices have on students’ learning, institutional credibility, and the country’s technical manpower.This article outlined a wide range of preventive and corrective measures. These include:- Strengthening examination systems through technology and strict supervision, - Promoting transparency and impartiality in grading, - Raising awareness about academic integrity among both students and teachers,- Introducing institutional policies like anonymous evaluation, ethics committees, and peer-reviewed assessments,- Encouraging support systems for stressed or struggling students,- Fostering an educational culture that values honesty and meritocracy.
