STS 3 The Landing is a true story of the recovery operations, from the author’s perspective, to prepare a remote and hostile area to land and prep the Columbia Spacecraft for its return to Kennedy Space Center. To expose the rugged but fragile Spacecraft to the harsh conditions of a desert prone to strong gusty winds filled with gypsum sand was asking a lot of not only the Orbiter and crew, but the ground crew as well.
