La stereoscopia è l’area di conoscenza che si occupa della visione in tre dimensioni, ma per definizione è limitata solo alle tecniche che permettono di ricostituire una scena tridimensionale osservata da due punti di vista diversi, che nel caso dell’uomo è la scena ricostituita nel cervello a partire dalle immagini ottenute dagli occhi. Inizialmente, questo lavoro consolida i concetti e le tecniche principali di questa vasta area per proporre modi di analizzare, confrontare e classificare le tecniche stereoscopiche, utilizzando concetti teorici e metriche qualitative e quantitative. Inoltre, sulla base della revisione della letteratura e dei risultati sperimentali, la ricerca cerca di valutare vantaggi e svantaggi tra le tecniche stereoscopiche e nel campo nel suo complesso, per alimentare le discussioni, le tendenze e le sfide incontrate nell’applicazione della stereoscopia ai sistemi di realtà aumentata (AR) e nell’area dei giochi digitali.
