H. Rider Haggard / HRider Haggard
Stella Fregelius is a novel written by H. Rider Haggard, first published in 1903. The story is set in the late Victorian era and follows the life of a young man named Morris Monk, who falls in love with the beautiful and intelligent Stella Fregelius. Stella is the daughter of a brilliant inventor, who has created a device that can communicate with the dead. Morris becomes fascinated with this invention and begins to help Stella’s father with his experiments. As the story progresses, Morris and Stella become engaged, but their happiness is threatened by the arrival of a mysterious stranger, who claims to be from a distant planet. This stranger, named Zulus, warns the group that their experiments could have dangerous consequences, and that they may be attracting the attention of other beings from beyond our world. As the tension builds, the group must confront both their own fears and the unknown forces that are closing in around them. Stella Fregelius is a gripping tale of love, science, and the supernatural, and is considered one of Haggard’s most imaginative works.Already under that heavy sky the light which struggled through the brine-encrusted eastern window was dim and grey. Presently, however, he discovered the figure of Stella seated in her accustomed place by the desolate-looking stone altar, whereon stood the box containing the aerophone that they had used in their experiments. She was dressed in her dark-coloured ulster, of which the hood was still drawn over her head, giving her the appearance of some cloaked nun, lingering, out of time and place, in the ruined habitations of her worship. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
