Stand Up Comedy-A Serious Business

What does it take for someone who once froze while speaking in front of 800 people to one day perform for thousands, appear on national television, host over 2,000 shows, build a comedy club, and make strangers laugh for a living? This book is the answer. Stand-Up Comedy: A Serious Business is the true story of an engineer who accidentally fell into stand-up comedy while trying to overcome stage fear-and ended up discovering far more than just jokes. From bombing spectacularly at open mics to chasing five-minute spots across Bangalore, creating a comedy collective from scratch, performing in parks, cafés, apartments, corporate offices, and eventually running a comedy club, this book takes you behind the scenes of a world most people only see through YouTube videos. Along the way, you’ll discover why making people laugh is one of the hardest jobs in the world, why failure is the best comedy writer you’ll ever meet, and why every successful comedian has a graveyard full of jokes that deserved a dignified funeral. Packed with hilarious real-life incidents, embarrassing failures, unconventional ideas, practical lessons on public speaking, and stories of relentless perseverance, this isn’t just a book about stand-up comedy. It’s a book about having the courage to look foolish, the discipline to keep showing up, and the persistence to chase a dream that makes absolutely no sense to anyone except you. Whether you’re terrified of speaking on stage, curious about the hidden life of comedians, or simply looking for a laugh, this book will make you smile, make you think, and hopefully convince you that the biggest transformations in life often begin with the most uncomfortable first step. After all, every comedian starts with silence. The brave ones learn how to turn it into laughter.
