Nach dem Ende der Dekolonisierung schien es über lange Zeit hinweg so, als habe das Recht der Staatennachfolge in völkerrechtliche Verträge zumindest weitgehend seine praktische Bedeutung verloren. Die deutsche Wiedervereinigung, der Zerfall der UdSSR und der Sozialistischen Föderativen Republik Jugoslawien sowie die Teilung der CSFR belegen jedoch die erneute Aktualität der Fragestellung.Vor diesem Hintergrund legt der Autor nunmehr die bislang einzige umfassende Analyse der neueren Staatenpraxis vor, die anhand der Wiener Konvention über das Recht der Staatennachfolge in völkerrechtliche Verträge zugleich untersucht, unter welchen Vorgaben sich eine völkerrechtliche Kodifikation auch praktisch durchzusetzen vermag.
