The Spiritual Canticle of the Soul and the Bridegroom of Christ is a Christian mystical treatise by St. John of the Cross, a Spanish Carmelite friar and poet. The book is a poem in which the soul is depicted as the bride and Christ as the bridegroom. The poem describes the journey of the soul towards union with God through the stages of purification, illumination, and union. The book is divided into four parts, each of which explores different aspects of the soul’s journey towards union with God. The first part describes the soul’s longing for God and the obstacles that must be overcome to reach him. The second part describes the soul’s purification and the trials it must endure to become worthy of union with God. The third part describes the soul’s illumination and the insights it gains into the nature of God. The fourth part describes the soul’s union with God and the ecstasy that comes with it. Throughout the book, St. John of the Cross uses vivid imagery and metaphor to convey the spiritual journey of the soul. The Spiritual Canticle of the Soul and the Bridegroom of Christ is considered one of the greatest works of Christian mysticism and has been an inspiration to many seekers of spiritual enlightenment.By the same author of the Dark Night of the Soul this scarce and little-known book was written while St. John was imprisoned. We’ve been duped into removing prayer from the center of our churches and have placed it on the periphery or semi-periphery.  What we’re witnessing today in our churches, and in society at large, is that legacy of prayerlessness.  Church leadership may be hesitant and embarrassed to admit it, but there is a direct correlation between our spiritual weakness and our lack of corpo...
