Families are awkward and challenging at the best of times. Now throw in the fact that something else flows in the blood other than human genes, and the level of challenge rises to a higher degree. Also toss in the importance of keeping a secret all your life and that worlds depend on that secret not getting out. That is a tall order for Stella and puts a huge strain on any given situation. We all go through life on a learning curve, and that is even truer for Stella Blake. She’s had to face up to some very hard truths about her and her family, and it has rocked her world. Finding out that magic is not only real but also that she is part of it and filled with it, and adding to that, she has to face up to the fact that she is part of an ancient prophecy as well and that is still hitting her hard. Stella continues to battle with herself the fact that she is magic and not human as she thought. She is going to need all her strength and her family to survive dangers involving magic that is planning on coming her way in the very near future. Her life as she knows it now will forever be changed. She will now have to rely on the incredible inner strength that she was born with. This is a challenge for her to deal with. Independence and trust-especially trust-are the most important things to Stella and will take all her cunning and strength to hold onto them. She is in for the ride of her life but doesn’t know that yet. The world as she knew it will never be the same again. She is about to find out that wizards, warlocks, and witches are real and not just stories, and she has a part to play in all this magic.

Stuart Evans’s first novel is a comedy-of-ill-manners set in a nouveau riche milieu: a fantastic satirical performance and hyper-referential homage to masters past and present. Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
