Spark’s Tract, by Jack R. Stevens, is a darkly comical, dystopian view of a California government overtaken by neo-Pagan environmental zealots.California’s lead environmental bureaucrat has teamed with a Gaia worshiper and drug guru, and a hilariously bumbling U.S. senator to reduce the state to total dependence on solar and wind power, run roughshod over the rights of private landowners, and prefer mountain lions over people. Arrayed against them is Will Spark, an internationally successful geophysicist who wishes to develop what he believes to be a massive natural gas play in the Sacramento River Delta. His allies include a beautiful and courageous journalist and a small group of freedom loving landowners.
