In einem Land wie Indien, in dem die Armut und der Lebensstandard der Menschen im Laufe der Zeit starken Schwankungen unterliegen, ist die Frage nach den Auswirkungen der Wirtschaftsreformen auf die Armut seit Beginn der Reformen in den Vordergrund der öffentlichen Debatte gerückt. Infolgedessen erhielt das Problem der Armut mit der Initiative der wirtschaftlichen Perspektive größte Aufmerksamkeit. Der Bezirk Kalahandi ist jedoch Teil der KBK-Region in Odisha, die durch chronische Dürre, hohe Ernährungsunsicherheit und chronische Einkommensarmut gekennzeichnet ist, was zu regelmäßigen Todesfällen führt, die die sozialen Auswirkungen dieser Region charakterisieren. Die sozialen Auswirkungen der Armut auf BPL-Familien sind ein wichtiges Thema. Die vorliegende Studie über diese widersprüchliche Situation hat nach und nach einen Kreislauf von Ursache und Wirkung aufgezeigt. Trotz zahlreicher staatlicher Unterstützungsmaßnahmen sind die Armen aufgrund fehlender zwischenmenschlicher und gruppenübergreifender Beziehungen zwischen den Haushalten arm geblieben.
