Sowing and Reaping: Or What Will Come of It is a novel written by Mary Botham Howitt and originally published in 1844. The story follows the lives of two families, the Mertons and the Lloyds, who are both struggling to make ends meet. The Mertons are a poor family who live in a small cottage and struggle to provide for their children. The Lloyds, on the other hand, are a wealthy family who live in a grand mansion and are able to enjoy all of life’s luxuries. As the story progresses, the two families become intertwined through a series of events. The Mertons’ daughter, Lucy, is sent to work as a maid in the Lloyd household, where she witnesses the extravagance and excess of their lifestyle. Meanwhile, the Lloyds’ son, Arthur, becomes drawn to Lucy’s simple and honest nature.Throughout the novel, Howitt explores the themes of class, wealth, and morality. She questions the value of material possessions and the impact they have on our lives. She also highlights the importance of hard work, honesty, and integrity in achieving success and happiness.Sowing and Reaping: Or What Will Come of It is a thought-provoking and insightful novel that continues to resonate with readers today. It is a timeless reminder of the importance of living a life of purpose and meaning, and the consequences of our actions. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
