This slim volume is made up of poems composed over a period of years on a variety of themes as their significance rose, usually quite suddenly, into consciousness. Then came the poet’s task of turning half-focused awareness into words, in the process that T.S. Eliot once aptly called 'the marshalling of undisciplined squads of emotion.' Apart from one short poem that was written as a jeu d’esprit for my daughter on her eighth birthday, all are variations on two themes which weave together, namely, that human evolution, far from having reached its end, is facing its greatest challenge and at its heart is an unprecedented individual challenge of a spiritual nature. The hope of the poems is to share with the reader one person’s experience of exploration into this future. We are so happy to be able to share with you this delightful collection of deeply thoughtful poems composed by the late Frank Parkinson. We hope you will want to take them with you on your own personal journey of enlightenment and that they will give you lasting enjoyment.

‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular.
