The Yale Russian Chorus (YRC) and its affiliate the Yale University International Chorus: Diplomats of Song (YUIC) are unusual phenomena-part singing group, part fraternity, part discussion group-that started in 1953 at Yale at the height of the Cold War, a time when exhibiting strong interest in matters Russian and Soviet could be seen as suspect in the USA. It developed into a respectable tenor-bass chorus that has toured internationally many times and has participated in and won prizes at. major international choral festivals. The YUIC includes alumni and friends and continues the trend of international touring.The YRC Alumni Association has published this new songbook edition to provide a resource for present and future Choruses. It includes many hymns and anthems that are well known in their home countries but are little known in the United States. We hope that it will also prove useful for other singing groups that wish to incorporate this music into their repertoire.
