Sometimes I Wish It Could Always Be Day is a collection of conscious poems that explore diverse themes like climate change, war, spirituality, racism, and so on. The diverse themes notwithstanding, what strings this collection of poems together is the passion and conviction of the poet. Rich in metaphor and imagery and textured with flowery language, the poet hammers each message he is creating with the fire of a prophet and the stealth of a master of words. In the first verse of Summation, he writes:1 + 1 equals the whiterattling dark noses with the wealth of their skin; equals dark noses begging for spaces to breathe; forvoices to ride on; for justice, as if she’s wandered away like death’s dear. You’ll see this stealth and mastery of language throughout this collection. And this is what gives this collection its strength.

The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

If at the end of everything, we all have the chance to reflect on the life we led, the most common question would be: Did I make the most of my life?
