Cet ouvrage s’adresse aux professionnels de la santé intéressés par une réflexion sur les politiques publiques d’humanisation. Il montre comment les psychologues travaillant dans le programme d’humanisation de la santé d’un hôpital universitaire apportent leur contribution aux personnes âgées atteintes de maladies chroniques qui ont des difficultés à communiquer en raison de pathologies et/ou de séquelles qui les empêchent d’entendre, de parler et de comprendre, puisque la psychothérapie est généralement basée sur le dialogue. L’étude phénoménologique s’est appuyée sur les soins centrés sur la personne de Carl Rogers, dont les critères peuvent servir de base à la compréhension du vieillissement, des difficultés de communication, de la psychologie humaniste et des politiques d’humanisation, qui constituent la référence en matière de soins psychologiques humanisés pour toutes les personnes. Le vieillissement est marqué par un certain nombre de changements physiques, sociaux, cognitifs et comportementaux, qui affectent directement l’individu sur le plan social, en interférant ou non avec sa condition d’autonomie et d’indépendance. Dans ce contexte, il existe une relation entre le langage et la communication, dont les altérations sont perçues chez les personnes âgées, telles que l’aphasie, la surdité et la perte auditive.
