O trabalho de investigação é efectuado com o objetivo de desenvolver um software baseado em GUI que seja útil para uma abordagem CADD (Computer Aided Design and Drafting) e de engenharia simultânea. Com a utilização deste sistema desenvolvido, todas as fases de conceção, modelação e análise do desenvolvimento do produto são trabalhadas numa bancada. O trabalho analisa as etapas processuais envolvidas no projeto de acoplamentos e o desenvolvimento do pacote de software utilizando visual basic como ferramenta para o projeto. Este sistema é realizado com base no estudo de caso de um acoplamento de flange e na equação de conceção normalizada que é realizada em conjunto com a utilização de software de programação e utiliza o Creo como software de modelação após a obtenção de resultados do software de conceção.
