Slurred Saga takes place in the period of 1957 to 1967 with flash back scenes of growing up in Oklahoma during a time when the main characters are in college, Naval Aviation Flight School and flying Marine Corps helicopters in combat in Vietnam. The innocence of the 50s fades into the irreverent 60s which includes the astonishing influence of the introduction of “The Pill” into the dating arena. Relief from fear of pregnancy, enhanced by alcohol, unveiled desires long hidden by cultural suppression and added spice to the age old pursuit of happiness. Always disappointed when a movie scene fades from kissing or petting to some other time or place, instead of showing what everyone knows happens next, the author carries the scenes through to completion. At the forefront of his thoughts are a humble appreciation of women's intuition, brilliant capabilities, intellect, views and opinions but he also believes the female form is absolutely exquisite and deserves recognition in prose, as well as, paint and poetry. As a result, the visual descriptions of women and sexual escapades in this work are as complete as recall and verbal aptitude permit. The helicopter combat stories are seen through the eyes of a junior officer who recently graduates from flight school and is almost immediately sent to Vietnam. His experiences as a Platoon Commander of Marines and as a helicopter co-pilot are riveting and suspenseful. 3
