L’elettronica di potenza è l’arte di convertire l’energia elettrica da una forma all’altra in modo pulito, efficiente, compatto e robusto per un utilizzo conveniente. La corrente elettrica prelevata dagli apparecchi dei clienti dalla rete elettrica scorre attraverso le impedenze del sistema di rete e provoca una caduta di tensione, che influisce sulla tensione fornita ai clienti domestici o industriali. Pertanto, sono necessarie sia la qualità della tensione che la qualità della corrente. La rete è responsabile della qualità della tensione, mentre il cliente sul lato del carico è responsabile della qualità della corrente elettrica. La qualità della fornitura di energia elettrica è influenzata principalmente da armoniche, sfarfallii, oscillazioni, sbalzi e interruzioni. Per rendere il sistema stabile e migliorare la Power Quality (PQ), è necessario collegare tra fornitore e carico un’interfaccia elettronica di potenza con riduzione totale delle armoniche.
