Sono state segnalate numerose serie omologhe mesogeniche con gruppi -COO-, -CH=N-, -N=N-, -CH=CH-, -CH=CH-COO-, -C=C-, ecc. come legami centrali. Molte serie omologhe mesogeniche contengono due legami centrali, entrambi possono essere gruppi estere o azometinici oppure uno dei due può essere estere e l’altro azometinico. Il nostro obiettivo era sintetizzare un omologo che presentasse tendenze smectogeniche; inoltre, sarebbe stato molto interessante valutare ulteriormente l’effetto del legame centrale ammidico sui sistemi nematici. In quest’ottica, sono stati sintetizzati degli omologhi e sono state valutate le loro proprietà cristalline liquide.
