Sinister Among Us, A Mystery Novel, is a gripping narrative of intrigue, crime, and sinister activities at a small Christian college in the rural Indiana town of Copperville. The main charter of the book is Dr. Bradley Green, the Interim President at Cyprus College. The mystery of this book is Green’s search to find who or what is causing the sinister things that are happening at Cyprus College. The sinister things include, but are not limited to: male faculty members giving higher grades to female students in return for sex; faculty members selling drugs on campus; the residence hall director making prostitutes of young female students fresh off the farm and living on campus; flying people across state lines for sex and gambling; money disappearing from the college’s scholarship fund; holding faculty meetings that are not legally called, in hopes of dismissing Green; the financial office withholding taxes from the paychecks of employees, but keeping the withheld tax money for the college to spend instead of paying the taxes to the government; and the disappearance of the College’s Governing Board Chairman. The key to solving the mystery is a real a key, an honest-to-goodness key-to a safe deposit box in a bank. But there is no indication on the key at what bank, or the safe deposit box number, and no one at the college knows anything about the key. By an incident someone else initiates, Green finds where the bank is that has the safe deposit box that the key fits. And the contents of the safe deposit box help Green solve the mystery. The contents of the box also reveal how Copperville got its name, as well as how Cyprus College has a name related to an island in the Mediterranean Sea.

Stuart Evans’s first novel is a comedy-of-ill-manners set in a nouveau riche milieu: a fantastic satirical performance and hyper-referential homage to masters past and present.
