As dinâmicas de género também desempenham um papel importante: as mulheres podem interpretar o segredo digital como distanciamento emocional, enquanto os homens podem vê-lo como independência ou auto-proteção. Estas nuances culturais e psicológicas sublinham a necessidade de uma compreensão mais profunda do modo como as práticas de privacidade digital afectam as relações conjugais no seio das famílias.Para além da expetativa a priori, prevê-se que as diferenças de género desempenhem um papel crucial na forma como os parceiros interpretam o segredo digital. As mulheres podem ser mais propensas a ver a ocultação de palavras-passe ou actividades digitais como prova de afastamento emocional ou potencial infidelidade, enquanto os homens podem estar mais inclinados a interpretar tais acções como autonomia, independência ou espaço pessoal. Estas diferenças podem criar assimetrias nas percepções conjugais, influenciando as estratégias de resolução de conflitos e a satisfação global da relação.
