Space-Division-Multiplexing-Systeme (SDM) waren in den letzten zehn Jahren Gegenstand zahlreicher Forschungsarbeiten, um die Kapazitätsgrenze der aktuellen Singlemode-Glasfaser (~100 Tbit/s) zu überwinden. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Übertragung von Mode-Division-Multiplexing über Few-Mode-Fasern als einer der SDM-Ansätze und dem Entwurf eines energieeffizienten Few-Mode-Erbium-dotierten Faserverstärkers (FM-EDFA) für SDM-Langstreckensysteme. Das Hauptziel dieses Buches besteht darin, die Leistung der FM-EDFAs in einem optischen SDM-System unter Verwendung einer geeigneten Pumpfeldstärkeverteilung und einer Erbium-dotierten Faser mit einem maßgeschneiderten Erbium-dotierten Profil zu untersuchen.
