It was a wonderful holiday weekend on our favorite lake where Jenny and I enjoyed a full day of boating with our friends, Matt and Caitie, on my new 245 SEARAY cruiser. What a glorious day it was with perfect warm weather, with a slight breeze, and the sounds of the birds singing in the tree tops, and the sounds of people and music filling the air having fun all around the lake. We enjoyed a full day of boating all around this large lake and toward evening we were getting hungry and I decided to stop over at Rattlesnake Island, an uninhabited large primitive island, to have dinner on board. We parked in the Tullie’s and tied off the boat. We enjoyed the beautiful night sky on a clear moonless night. After dinner, I suggested that we spend the night on the boat as it was so beautiful there, no winds or waves and everyone was delighted to do so. Matt and I were making small talk and enjoying the star filled heavens and the ladies went below to arrange the sleeping arrangements. Suddenly, we heard what sounded like a loud crash, coming from far out in the lake on a totally silent night. I asked Matt what was that, and he was as confused about it as I was. We sat there in silence and heard nothing more but we were confused about what it was. We talked briefly about the event, but neither of us did not know what to do, if anything. Then a strong feeling of foreboding came over me that we needed to investigate it, and we did in the following story, Show Me the Way.
