After a chance encounter with an Abolitionist, Rebekah is obsessed by a desire to end slavery. But as a young Amish Girl living on a farm near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, she feels hopeless to do anything about it. Although she feels loved by her Amish family, she believes she has a higher purpose. But her protective father commands that she not interact with the non-Amish world around her. In his view, what happens outside their tight-knit farming community is none of her concern. But her life, and the outcome of the battle of Gettysburg, the decisive battle of the Civil War, changes when the Confederate Army suddenly descends on her farm. She overhears their plans to attack Gettysburg and decides she must alert the Union Army of their intentions.She sneaks out of her home under the noses of the Confederate sentries and makes her way toward Gettysburg. But can she get past all the Confederate pickets guarding their camps? And if she does, how can she convince the Union Army to believe her? Most importantly, will she ever see her Amish family again? Rebekah is unprepared for her mission and the horrors of war. Can she find the inner strength to accomplish her goal of ending slavery?
