''She: A History of Adventure'' is a novel by H. Rider Haggard, first published in 1887. The story follows the adventures of a group of explorers who travel to the heart of Africa in search of a lost kingdom ruled by a mysterious and powerful queen named Ayesha, also known as ''She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed''. The main character, Leo Vincey, is the descendant of an ancient Egyptian priest who was instructed by the goddess Isis to seek out Ayesha and destroy her. Along with his companion, the adventurer Horace Holly, Leo sets out on a perilous journey through the African wilderness, encountering various obstacles and dangers along the way. When they finally reach the lost kingdom of Kr, they are greeted by Ayesha, who claims to have been waiting for Leo for thousands of years. As the story unfolds, Leo finds himself drawn to Ayesha, despite her cruel and ruthless nature, and must ultimately decide whether to follow his heart or fulfill his destiny. ''She: A History of Adventure'' is a classic tale of love, adventure, and supernatural mystery, and is considered one of Haggard’s most popular and enduring works. Some consider this the best of his ''small party goes off into jungle and finds'' novels. A guilty pleasure. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
