Gemma’s husband Mason Brownlie needed to move into residential care, unfortunately keeping him at home was no longer an option since she broke her leg, he had become too difficult and hazardous to manage on her own. It’s an emotional roller coaster of fear and duty as Gemma remembers the man she married and is unable to see the confused soul he was now.       The struggle is accentuated by Dwayne who is happy to keep his dad and stepmother apart. He has a plan to profit by the rest home situation driving a wedge between them by lying, manipulatively working on his dad’s emotions he slowly convinced him that his wife didn’t want him.        Everything stems around Mason’s memory loss and cognitive deficits, having dementia he will do what his son tells him. Gemma is heartbroken, feeling helpless to sort out the deception, she continually defends herself while battling pain in her leg and loneliness. Dwayne plans to work on Mason’s distant memory by snatching him to spend time with his ex-wife, attempting to confuse Mason into thinking she’s still his wife.      Dwayne never bothered with his dad before he went into the rest home but now spends every chance he gets in pursuit of obtaining money. Gemma needs to seek legal advice to protect herself and Mason from Dwayne’s behavior as he endeavors to access bank accounts, and separation proceeding for Mason to sell the house.     Gemma fights for her right to see her husband and for justice which takes two long years of legal battles, before she sits facing her darling at the settlement conference and she watches his hostility and distrust having been enforced on him. She knows that he is regressing and will never get better. Both lawyers and the judge, are struck speechless when Gemma speaks her mind. It was obvious to all, contrary to what Dwayne was saying, Mason does have dementia and doesn’t understand the consequences of filing for separation. Justice! But it’s too late for them as Gemma finds the perfect beach house, meets Jonah and they go cruising together, dancing and enjoy getting to know each other. Gemma is reluctant to lose her newfound freedom and struggles to be romantically involved again.    Gemma has a strong desire to always retreat back to the safety of her cottage by the sea. Jonah needed to know if there was a place for him in her life. After a lot of contemplation she comes to the realization that everything happens for a reason and phones Jonah, she’s ready to move on. Jonah is over the moon, proposes marriage and she says, Yes!                                                                                                                                                       L.J. Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
