SHATTERED ICE: Book 1 of the Dangerous Adventures SeriesHave you ever wanted to be on an outdoor adventure? Would you want a little magical realism added to complicate things? Max thought he wanted both—until the worst accident in Mt Rainier’s history happened.Seriously, have you ever wanted to go mountain climbing? If so, Shattered Ice---The First Story in the Dangerous Adventure Series, is the fast-paced, modern-day, climbing adventure for you. In this story Hillary discovers Max and Max discovers a love for high mountains and what it means to be there for his team—even when the crevasse is bottomless!Max has recently lost his father and is dropping out of everything. Mad at his coach, he drops soccer. In a confrontation with his mother, Max demands to follow in his deceased father’s footsteps and climb Mt. Rainier. A mountain known for ice cliffs, glaciers, crevasses, and chaotic weather. Max trains with his grandfather and his life starts going better. He makes friends with the adults on his rope team during the climb. The last thousand feet are hard, Max doesn’t quit—he makes the summit. Things go good on the way down until--An earsplitting crack, a huge ice wall falls, ice blocks shove climbers into a yawning, blue crevasse. Hurt, scared, Max just wants to curl up, pretend he and his rope team are okay. But, in soccer, his father had taught him to always be there for his team. Injured, can Max be there for a rope team on a dangerous mountain covered in ice?Book 1 in the Dangerous Adventure Series, Shattered Ice, is a realistic, modern day climb of Mt. Rainier in Washington State. Robby, the author, didn’t just research the story. He climbed the 14,411 foot mountain and is personally acquainted with the fear and pain a tragic ice fall presents. Robby writes about the outdoors with total realism. Shattered Ice will suit anyone who enjoyed Gary Paulsen’s Hatchet or Roland Smith’s Peak Marcello stories.
