Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2005 im Fachbereich Anglistik - Literatur, Note: 2, Universität Potsdam (Institut für Anglistik/Amerikanistik), Veranstaltung: Shakespeare’s späte Romanzen: „The Winter’s Tale' and „The Tempest', Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Das Bordbuch des Columbus, erschienen im Horst Erdmann Verlag 1970, ist einedeutsche Übersetzung des von Christopher Kolumbus geführten Bordbuchs währendseiner ersten Entdeckungsreise im Jahre 1942. Es ist eines der bedeutendstenDokumente in der Geschichte der Seefahrt, in dem detailliert Tag für Tag die Ereignisse und Beobachtungen Columbus’ niedergeschrieben wurden. Für diese Hausarbeit habe ich mich insbesondere mit den ersten Begegnungen zwischen Columbus und den Ureinwohnern der Inseln auseinandergesetzt. Columbus hatte seinen ersten Kontakt mit amerikanischen Eingeborenen auf den Inselndes Karibischen Meeres. Seine Mannschaft und er trafen auf den großen Antillen die Taino, die der Völkerfamilie der Arawaken angehörten und vom sudamerikanischen Festland her die Inseln in Besitz genommen hatten. Die Taino lebten auf der Stufe einer primitiven Pflanzerkultur, zeigten aber bereits Ansätze zur Entwicklung einer Hochkultur.Der Anbau der Baumwolle lieferte ihnen den Rohstoff für die Herstellung von Geweben; Gold verarbeiteten sie zu Schmuckstücken, und aus Stein und Holz schufen sie Kunstwerke. Körperbau und Gesichtszuge der Taino machten auf die Europäer einen angenehmen Eindruck. Kolumbus schildert sie als gut gewachsene, hübsche Menschen und stellt mit Überraschung fest, dass sie kein krauses Haar und keine schwärzliche Hautfarbe haben.
