Homicide Detective Victor Barlowe is an ancient vampire who loves his job. Victor and Detective Diego Alonso, also a vampire, are legendary because they solve the most complicated cases. Then, the murders take place closer to Simply Sweet, the smoothie bar owned by Steven Van Cortlandt; he is also Victor’s life partner. When one night the monster attacks Steven’s sister, the stakes are raised. The leader of the vampire council assumes that it is a Shadowborn who killed these young women. The Shadowborn is an ancient vampire-like supreme being and almost impossible to defeat. Its claws are deadly because of the poison the claws produce. However, nothing is what it seems in this case, and Victor, Diego, Steven, and his two employees, Lara and Jordan, soon find out. Someone is lying about the dark creature, and someone is paying a high price. There’s another surprise that awaits Victor.
