En este libro se realiza un recorrido por la obra del nicaragüense Sergio Ramírez, desde sus textos de inicio, cuentos y ensayos, hasta sus obras publicadas en 2004. Se analiza en ellos su espesura política y literaria, a la vez que se estudia cómo incorpora la figura de Rubén Darío, en tanto símbolo cultural popular en Nicaragua. La figura del poeta le permite edificar un discurso para la imaginación de la nación y atraviesa en gran parte la obra. Ramírez se autofigura como continuador de Darío en cuanto a la elaboración de una literatura nicaragüense y en cuanto a profundizar su cosmopolitismo, a comienzos del siglo XXI. Por otra parte, las lecturas de las principales novelas de Ramírez que este libro propone se centran en evidenciar los diálogos, los homenajes y los envíos que entablan con diversas tradiciones literarias y culturales latinoamericanas y europeas.
