Después de que una situación desastrosa hace que Parker Avery pierda su puesto en el Departamento de Policía de Orlando, abre una firma de investigación privada. Sin embargo, el negocio no es lo que pensaba que sería, y después de pasar varias semanas sin un caso, reconsidera su decisión. Justo cuando su desánimo se está apoderando de ella, Kent Walker llega a su oficina con un caso nuevo. Parker acepta el caso de inmediato y, a pedido de Kent, acepta dejar que su nieta Kay la ayude. A medida que las dos mujeres se embarcan en la misión de encontrar el tesoro de Kent, pronto queda claro que son completamente opuestos. Parker intenta mantener su promesa a Kent, pasando por alto la negatividad de la otra mujer para concentrarse en el problema en cuestión. Sin embargo, Kay es buena presionando botones y hace todo lo que está en su poder para que Parker abandone el caso. A medida que aumenta la tensión, las dos mujeres se encuentran en una prueba que podría afectar su propia supervivencia, y cuando se enfrentan a una situación de vida o muerte, Parker y Kay finalmente abandonan sus defensas y se ven por lo que realmente son. Kay se da cuenta de que Parker podría ser la única persona que la conmueve románticamente, pero Parker aún atormentado por su pasado, sabe que sus secretos enterrados podrían arruinar la oportunidad si se revelan.
