Vanaf het 3e millennium voor Christus begonnen Semitische stammen in de Dvurechye door te dringen vanuit de Syrische steppe. De taal van deze groep Semitische stammen wordt Akkadisch of Babylonisch-Assyrisch genoemd, volgens die latere namen, die deze groep Semieten al in Dvurechye verwierf. In het begin vestigden ze zich in het noorden van het land en gingen ze over op de landbouw. Daarna verspreidde hun taal zich ook naar het zuidelijke deel van Dvurechye; tegen het einde van het derde millennium was er een definitieve vermenging van de Semitische en Sumerische bevolking. De verschillende Semitische stammen vormden in die tijd het grootste deel van de herdersbevolking in West-Azië; hun nederzettingsgebied omvatte de Syrische Steppe, Palestina en Arabië. De aanwezigheid van verschillende Semitische woorden in oude Sumerische teksten getuigt van zeer vroege relaties tussen Sumeriërs en herderssemitische stammen. De Semitische stammen verschijnen dan binnen het door de Sumeriërs bewoonde gebied. Al in het midden van het 3e millennium begonnen de Semitische stammen in het noorden van de Dvurechye Semieten erfgenamen en opvolgers te zijn van de Sumerische cultuur.
