Mais tarde, Penn ampliou bastante a publicação original, tratando exaustivamente dos pecados específicos do orgulho, da avareza e do luxo e acrescentando duas longas coleções de testemunhos de outros autores para fundamentar ainda mais sua posição. Esta edição é única, pois oferece ao leitor uma cuidadosa modernização do belo, mas um tanto arcaico, inglês de Penn, e foi resumida para conter apenas os capítulos principais e indispensáveis do tratado, em que Penn apresenta claramente a natureza, o poder e a experiência da cruz diária de Cristo, explicando o que ela é, onde e como deve ser tomada, e a maneira como atua nos verdadeiros discípulos de Cristo.
