Das vorliegende Papier ist eine Reihe von Forschungsarbeiten über die berufliche Tätigkeit von Selbstständigen, die in Afrika und insbesondere in Gabun noch immer unverstanden oder sogar verachtet wird. Durch die Untersuchung von Faktoren wie schlechte Mund-zu-Mund-Kommunikation, unangemessenes psychologisches Profil und Muskel-Skelett-Erkrankungen, die die berufliche Tätigkeit von Selbstständigen beeinträchtigen, haben wir die Zusammenhänge zwischen diesen Faktoren und der Leistung, dem Umgang mit der kognitiven Belastung und der Arbeitszufriedenheit untersucht. Gewürzverkäuferinnen, Secondhand-Verkäufer und Lkw-Fahrer nahmen an unseren verschiedenen Untersuchungen teil. Die Ergebnisse belegen, dass die Glaubwürdigkeit der traditionellen Botschaft die Preisgestaltung des Produkts bei Gewürzverkäuferinnen beeinflusst, dass die Profile Gewissenhaftigkeit und Neurotizismus ein effektives Management im Secondhand-Verkauf fördern und dass das Management von MSE keinen Einfluss auf die Zufriedenheit von Lkw-Fahrern hat.
