This book takes place in Central Florida in the fifties, a little settlement named Lutz. It’s orange grove country, loaded with wild critters that love to devour ripe citrus, especially raccoons - hence forth to be call Coons. This is where you’ll find 'Bud', a teenager, on Friday nights with his friends and dogs, chasing the elusive and wily coons through the groves and swamps. The drama of this book evolves as Bud finds friends that are willing to help him find meaning and security in relations outside of the home structure. Beginning with 'Ole Blue' a worn and tattered old Blue tic hound, his older Friday night friends and mentors, Amy, his first romance and truly trusted friend, to Dawn and a little dark skinned boy who would remain his lifetime companions. Rollicking fun, heart wrenching pain and eternal meaning are wrapped up in this story, laced with life values and strong feelings, all entwined to make a story that grabs you on the first page and will not turn loose long after the the book is resting on the shelf.. This is a novel - not a true story - but the place is real - the story is almost true - the characters are almost real. A must read for every teenager, boy or girl. A should read for every adult.
