The farming crisis of the early 1980’s had taken its toll and we were leaving, but not by our own choice. The farm ground had produced our crops and garden produce for seven years, from April 1979 to October 1986. It was ground for seasons of light and darkness, of joy and grief, of victory and defeat. Many battles had been fought here, not visible battles, but invisible. They were battles of sin and self-battles of the will-my will or God’s. Through it all, even when it seemed we would surely be overwhelmed, God’s light always overcame the darkness. These difficulties on our farm were used by the Lord as a ground of testing and training. Everyday situations became avenues to learn to trust the promises of God. The joy of simple duties of hoeing the garden and preparing meals for my family became pure expressions of praise to my God. I never dreamed God would answer my prayers in such astounding ways. The Lord I had believed in as a child, stepped out of the pages of the Bible and entered into my daily life.AUTHOR’S BIOGRAPHYNancy M. Stroppel and her husband Calvin live in Centralia, Missouri where she is involved in youth and children’s ministries. She spearheads pro-life educational efforts and a city-wide Bible reading marathon. Her passion is to encourage individuals to read the Bible daily and to restore it as the infallible standard for living.
