Das gegenwärtige gesellschaftliche Szenario ist durch die Diktatur des Aussehens gekennzeichnet, bei der Schönheit und gute kognitive Leistungen die Kriterien sind, die die Kompetenz des Subjekts bestätigen. Diejenigen, die diesen Idealen nicht entsprechen, sind oft mit einem Stigma behaftet und werden durch ihr eigenes Versagen gegenüber den von der zeitgenössischen Ideologie gesetzten Normen stark gezeichnet. Ausgehend von der Beobachtung eines Kindes mit Down-Syndrom soll in diesem Beitrag die Rolle des Psychologen als Schulmediator analysiert werden, wobei die Bedeutung des Umfelds für die emotionale und kognitive Entwicklung des Kindes berücksichtigt wird. Um dieses Thema zu entwickeln, haben wir uns auf die Ideen von Freud, Winnicott und Ferenczi gestützt, die den Anfängen des psychischen Lebens und der Bedeutung der Umwelt für die Konstruktion der Subjektivität große Bedeutung beimessen. Wir versuchen, die Bedeutung der Ethik der Fürsorge als etwas Grundlegendes für den Aufbau und die Aufrechterhaltung der Arbeit der Schulmediation hervorzuheben.
