Eine provisorische herausnehmbare Teilprothese (IRPD) ist ein provisorischer Zahnersatz, der während einer Übergangsphase zum Ersatz eines oder mehrerer fehlender Zähne dient. Sie trägt dazu bei, die Ästhetik, eine eingeschränkte Funktion und die Sprachfähigkeit wiederherzustellen und gleichzeitig die Position der verbleibenden natürlichen Zähne zu erhalten. IRPDs werden häufig nach Zahnextraktionen, während der Heilungsphase oder in der Wartezeit auf einen endgültigen Zahnersatz wie eine festsitzende Brücke oder ein Implantat eingesetzt. Sie bestehen meist aus Acrylharz und können zur Befestigung Drahtklammern enthalten. Obwohl sie nicht für den Langzeitgebrauch vorgesehen sind, bieten IRPDs wichtige Unterstützung bei der Behandlungsplanung und gewährleisten den Komfort des Patienten während des gesamten restaurativen Prozesses.
