Saxby: A Tale Of Old And New England is a historical novel written by Emma Leslie and published in 1884. The story is set in the 17th century and follows the life of a young girl named Saxby. The book is divided into two parts, the first part focusing on Saxby’s life in England, while the second part follows her journey to the New World. In the first part of the book, Saxby is living in England with her father, a wealthy merchant. She is a curious and adventurous girl who longs to explore the world beyond her home. Her father, however, is overprotective and forbids her from leaving the house. Despite this, Saxby manages to sneak out and explore the town, where she meets a young boy named Will. The two become fast friends, and Will introduces Saxby to the world of sailing. In the second part of the book, Saxby and her father decide to move to the New World. They embark on a dangerous journey across the ocean, facing storms and other dangers along the way. When they arrive in the New World, they settle in a small town and begin to build a new life. Saxby quickly adapts to her new surroundings and becomes friends with the local Native Americans. However, tensions between the settlers and the Native Americans begin to rise, and Saxby finds herself caught in the middle.Throughout the book, Saxby learns important lessons about courage, friendship, and the importance of following one’s dreams. The novel is a vivid portrayal of life in both old and new England, and provides a fascinating glimpse into the early days of the New World. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
