Embora o Butão apresente uma baixa prevalência de infecções sexualmente transmissíveis (IST) e de VIH/SIDA na região, o número de casos de IST-VIH/SIDA tem vindo a aumentar de forma constante ao longo dos anos. De acordo com o boletim anual de saúde do Ministério da Saúde, cerca de 2000 pacientes recebem tratamento para os casos de IST registados no Butão. As IST mais comuns prevalecentes no país são a gonorreia, a sífilis, o VIH/SIDA e a hepatite B.
