La ville de Barbacena, Minas Gerais, a une histoire unique dans la lutte anti-asile brésilienne. Depuis le début du XXe siècle, sept grands hôpitaux psychiatriques ont été créés dans cette municipalité. La survenue de plus de 60 000 décès dus à la négligence, aux mauvais traitements et à la violence dans les services des hôpitaux psychiatriques a entraîné une forte stigmatisation sociale. C’est ainsi qu’est apparue la nécessité d’apporter une réponse adéquate au modèle hospitalier. Parallèlement au déclin du modèle de l’asile psychiatrique, les services de santé mentale communautaires ont été développés. La satisfaction des patients psychiatriques est l’un des meilleurs indicateurs de la qualité des services de santé mentale. Cette étude évalue la satisfaction des patients psychiatriques qui utilisent le service résidentiel thérapeutique (SRT) dans la ville de Barbacena, Minas Gerais, Brésil.
