'The Girl with the Flower Crown' is the story of St Philomena told in simple rhyme. St Philomena was a young princess who dedicated her life to Christ. When faced with the proposal to marry an evil king, she refused and remained steadfast in her love for God. She kept her gaze on heaven while being persecuted by the king and his men and was finally martyred. Her zeal for God, and her courage in the face of trials, despite her age, are admirable. We all have fears and standing in the face of our unknowns can feel daunting. But God fills us with His peace when we remain faithful to Him and keep our focus on heaven. St Philomena’s story is a reminder that our Lord never leaves us and when faced with seemingly impossible feats, He stands waiting with heaven’s doors wide open, eager to welcome us home.
