        Carlos Victoria nació en Camagüey, Cuba, en 1950. En 1965 ganó el premio de cuentos auspiciado por la fundación de la revista El Caimán Barbudo. En 1971 fue expulsado por diversionismo ideológico de la Universidad de La Habana, donde cursaba estudios de Lengua y Literatura Inglesa. En 1876 fue arrestado por la Seguridad del Estado cubana y todos sus manuscritos fueron cofiscados. En 1980 salió de la isla por el puente marítimo Mariel-Cayo Hueso y desde entonces sus cuentos han aparecido en antologías y revistas de Estados Unidos, España, Francia, Alemania y América Latina. En 1985 uno de sus relatos fue incluido en la selección anual de Le Monde. Fue redactor del periódico The Miami Herald, ha sido galardonado con la prestigiosa Beca Cintas. Uno de los iniciadores, junto a Reinaldo Arenas, de la revista Mariel (1983-1985). Cuando Reinaldo Arenas sintió la cercanía de su muerte confió en Carlos Victoria el cuidado y revisión de su obra no publicada, la novela El color del verano. Falleció en Miami en el año 2007. Es reconocido como uno de los mejores escritores cubanos.         Carlos Victoria publicó los libros de relatos Las sombras en la playa (1992), El resbaloso y otros cuentos (1997), El salón del ciego (2004) y las novelas Puente en la oscuridad (Premio Letras de Oro, 1993, auspiciado por American Express y dirigido por la Universidad de Miami. El escritor español Camilo José Cela fue el invitado de honor para entregar el premio), La travesía secreta (1994) y La ruta del mago (1997). La travesía secreta fue seleccionada como la mejor novela del mes de noviembre de 2001 en Francia, por el jurado del Premio al Mejor Libro Extranjero. Todos sus libros de cuentos fueron traducidos al francés y otros idiomas.**********        Carlos Victoria was born in Camagüey, Cuba, in 1950. In 1965 he won the short story prize sponsored by the foundation of the magazine El Caimán Barbudo. In 1971 he was expelled for 'ideological diversionism' from the University of Havana, where he was studying English Language and Literature. In 1876 he was arrested by the Cuban State Security and all his manuscripts were confiscated. In 1980 he left the island via the Mariel-Key West sea bridge and since then his stories have appeared in anthologies and magazines in the United States, Spain, France, Germany and Latin America. In 1985 one of his stories was included in the annual selection of Le Monde. He was an editor for The Miami Herald newspaper and has been awarded the prestigious Cintas Scholarship. One of the initiators, along with Reinaldo Arenas, of Mariel magazine (1983-1985). When Reinaldo Arenas felt the approach of his death, he entrusted Carlos Victoria with the care and revision of his unpublished work, the novel The Color of Summer. He died in Miami in 2007. He is recognized as one of the best Cuban writers.        Carlos Victoria published the short story books Las sombras en la playa (1992), El resbaloso y otros cuentos (1997), El salón del ciego (2004) and the novels Puente en la oscuridad (Golden Letter Award, 1993, sponsored by American Express and directed by the University of Miami. The Spanish writer Camilo José Cela was the guest of honor to present the award.), La travesía secreta (1994) y La ruta del mago (1997). La travesía secreta was selected as the best novel of the month of November 2001 in France, by the jury of the Best Foreign Book Award. All of his storybooks were translated into French and other languages.
