Il duomo di El-Hassana è un museo a cielo aperto che conserva una documentazione completa della vita antica. È uno dei siti geologici più famosi e affascinanti dell’Egitto e merita di essere uno dei protettorati. Il membro calcareo-marnoso contenente Actaeonella della formazione Abu Roash nella cupola di El-Hassana presenta una tonalità scura che contrasta con la scogliera bianca circostante formata da membri dominati dal calcare. È costituito da scisto, marna e calcare che in alcuni punti producono Trochactaeon salomonis, Nerinea requieniana, Durania arnaudi e Millestroma nicholsoni. La gerarchia delle facies a El-Hassana comprende: pietre galleggianti scheletriche a bassa energia che rappresentano la fase iniziale e di avvio, pietre legate a rudisti/spugne della fase di recupero e colonizzazione, e pietre granuli bioclastiche ad alta energia che rappresentano la cessazione della crescita dei cumuli e la fase distruttiva attraverso l’azione efficace delle onde e delle correnti. Lo sviluppo improvviso di facies carbonatiche argillose dalla piattaforma centrale a quella esterna con cumuli rudisti/spugnosi locali del membro calcareo contenente Actaeonella sopra la piattaforma interna facies carbonatiche più superficiali del membro 'calcareo' sottostante può suggerire una retrogradazione accompagnata da un approfondimento dell’accomodamento deposizionale.
