Romantic Riddles is a collection of poems that examines the essence of love and the questions, puzzles, and uncertainties that accompany each kiss, intimate encounter, and relationship we experience in our lives. Each poem is infused with some aspect of the heart's greatest puzzle: Love. American Poet John Everett Button asks, 'if the heart could speak, what would it say?' In asking that very question, an entire world overcame him. Scenes of unfathomable circumstances consumed him. Everything he experienced became the Romantic Riddles collection. Romantic Riddles is divided into two parts: 'The Love Dialectic,' which describes the movement of love between two people and 'Riddles of the Heart,' which are poetic parables about love itself. 'The Love Dialectic,' describes and demonstrates the natural movement of love between two people through short vivid poems. Insofar as part I is a poetic description of the movement of love itself, part II is a clear but frightening abstraction of this concept. The poetic parables of Part II challenge the reader's expectations and force a deeper reflection of their own heart. 3

The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....
